This is the Earth’s warmest in 134 years!

According to a study by scientists at NASA, the MET and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), 2014 was the hottest year ever recorded! This is the Earth’s warmest in 134 years!

Global warming; the rise in the average temperature of the Earth’s surface, is not a natural occurrence, but the result of human activities! Global warming affects everyone; the economy, the community and our health.

Earth Hour 2015

World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) Earth Hour’s core vision is to create an environmental impact by utilising the power of the crowd. Since its inception in 2007, it is now the largest grassroots environmental movement in the world! Held every March, the symbolic “lights off” hour has amassed an international following of more than 162 countries and 7000 cities. Singapore has certainly shown our support too; namely Merlion Park, Marina Bay Sands and many others.

This year, Earth Hour will be held on 28th March at 8:30 pm. Join the WWF-Singapore team for the lights off event at ION Orchard by forming the 60+ Earth Hour logo with LED candles.

A ‘Climate Change Trail’ depicting potential scenarios of global warming will give visitors a first-hand glimpse of the impact of global warming. These include a Housing Development Board (HDB) flat caught in a heat wave, a supermarket amidst food scarcity, and a shelter set up due to intense flooding. It will be an informative and engaging event fit for everyone, so head on down and we’ll see you there!

Advocate’s Promise

It is a privilege to show our support for the Earth Hour movement this year, working alongside Sphere Exhibits as part of the event production team.

Here at Advocate, we are starting our own Earth Hour initiative. Join us in making a commitment to change climate change! We encourage everyone to join us in starting their own initiative in the office too!

Here are five simple steps that we can do for a #WORLDINREHAB:

1) Switching off non-essential lights

2) Minimize printing and photocopying

3) Switching off all appliances at the power socket after use

4) Setting the air conditioner to an ideal 24° (or higher)

5) Say no to plastic bags

“There is no doubt that individuals are the ones with the power to make a difference,”Elaine Tan, Chief Executive Officer, WWF Singapore.
